Surgery

At Lansdowne Animal Hospital, we understand how learning that your pet needs surgery can be a frightening experience. You probably have lots of questions and more than a few concerns, such as whether or not your loved one will experience pain or be at risk during the procedure.

We know exactly what you’re going through because each one of us has been in your shoes with our own furbabies. That’s why we always go above and beyond to make sure that every surgery performed in our hospital is as stress-free and positive an experience as possible.

Our doctors are experienced in performing both routine and complex surgeries using cutting edge equipment and the most modern techniques available. More importantly, keeping your pet as safe and pain-free as possible will always be our top priority. Rest assured that while surgery may not be something you and your pet have to deal with very often, it’s something we are experts in. Your loved one will be in excellent hands with our surgical team!

Before your pet’s surgery, we will start by conducting a thorough health screening. This allows us to identify certain risks that may be unique to your pet, and that we must prepare for ahead of time. When we are able to plan ahead for these risks, the process goes much smoother for everyone – especially your pet!

Next, we’ll work on developing a customized pain management plan that will be tailored specifically to your pet and designed to keep them as comfortable as possible – before, during and following surgery. We never want to place our patients at unnecessary risk, so we take every measure possible to keep them safe and pain-free. To that end, we use only the safest and most effective pain relief products available.

On the day of your pet’s surgery, we will take some time getting them settled in and allowing them to become acclimated to us and their surroundings. The more calm and comfortable your pet is, the better the process will be. That’s why we always take the time to pet our patients and speaking soothingly to them. We want to help ease any tension and make the experience as positive and stress-free as possible. Once settled, your pet will be safely sedated and prepared for surgery.

During surgery, the doctor will work diligently with great precision to complete the procedure. At all times, our experienced care team will remain on hand to assist with surgery and to continuously monitor your pet’s vital signs and pain control, ensuring his or her well-being from start to finish. Our state of the art surgical suite is outfitted with modern surgical tools and cutting edge monitoring equipment to help ensure that your pet’s procedure is a complete success.

Some of the surgeries we regularly perform in-house include:

  • General Surgery – Spays, Neuters
  • Advanced Surgery – Cystotomy, Enterotomy, Pelvic Urethrostemy etc.
  • Oral Surgery
  • Laser Surgery – Especially useful for growth removals
  • Orthopedic Surgery
  • Ophthalmic Surgery
  • Emergency Surgery

When surgery is complete, we will relocate your loved one to our hospital recovery area where he or she can safely begin to awake from anesthesia. We will continue to monitor your pet and spend as much time as necessary to make this time as calm and relaxed as possible. A member of our care team will then reach out to you to explain how the procedure went and arrange for you to come retrieve your pet.

Before bringing your pet home, we will sit down with you to go over our post-surgical care instructions. This will likely include a plan for managing your pet’s pain at home, ensuring a more comfortable and pain-free recovery period. Of course, should you have any questions or concerns about your pet once you’ve returned home, we encourage you to give us a call. Help is always just a phone call away!

If you recently learned that your pet needs surgery, there’s no need to panic – especially when you’ve got the experienced, compassionate team at Lansdowne Animal Hospital in your corner. We’ll have your four-legged friend fixed up and on the road to recovery before you know it!
