How To Request Pet Medication From Your Veterinary Team

Lansdowne Animal Hospital offers secure online medication requests. All requests must be authorized by your veterinarian and must be submitted directly by the pet owner. We require a minimum of 48 business hours’ notice to process refills. We fulfill orders as quickly as possible and accommodate same-day requests if and when we can. However, we cannot guarantee same-day fulfillment. Also, please note that requests submitted on weekends or holidays will be processed during normal business hours. If you need to reorder your pet’s meds, we strongly recommend submitting your request before you run out.

Each refill request is thoroughly reviewed by a veterinarian. We only prescribe medications that are appropriate for the pet and their specific condition. Your vet will determine this on a case-by-case basis, after evaluating the pet’s age, size, health status, medical history, current standards of care, and other pertinent factors. We only authorize medications according to best practices and carefully follow all applicable medical and legal requirements. Approval is never guaranteed and remains at the veterinarian’s discretion.

Before authorizing medication, your vet may need to ensure that your pet has had a current physical examination and that any necessary laboratory tests, diagnostics, or blood work has been completed. 

Medication Requests Through Other Retailers

We do not process, authorize, or respond directly to medication requests submitted by outside parties, retailers, or drugstores, regardless of whether the request is sent by fax, phone, email, electronic authorization systems, or automatic requests. All medication requests must be initiated by the pet owner and are authorized and processed through our veterinary hospital and staff, according to all legal requirements.

This policy reduces delays and miscommunications, while ensuring that your pet’s medication information is accurate and properly documented in their medical records. It also helps avoid issues that can impact timely patient care, such as varying requirements, irregular medication availability and delivery timelines, quality control, and communication challenges.

For your convenience, we offer vet-approved medication ordering through our pet hospital website. This provides a safe and reliable online source for pet owners to order medications, preventatives, special diets, and other veterinary-approved products.

Controlled substances are subject to additional federal and state regulations and require close monitoring. All requests for controlled medications must be submitted directly by the pet owner. We do not accept requests for controlled medications from outside parties or agencies.

Controlled medications have strict guidelines and requirements. For some, the pet must have been examined by one of our veterinarians within the previous six months. Additional prerequisites, such as bloodwork, testing, or rechecks, may also be necessary. Exact requirements will vary, depending on the specific medication and your pet’s condition. Approval is not guaranteed and remains at the professional discretion of the veterinarian. 

Some controlled medications must be picked up in person. You will be required to show valid identification when picking up pet meds. 

By law, prescribed medications require valid authorization from a licensed veterinarian. We will only dispense prescribed drugs upon receipt of proper documentation from your veterinarian.

Lansdowne Animal Clinic assumes no liability or responsibility for any damages, adverse reactions, or health complications resulting from the improper use, storage, dosage, or administration of any pet medication. We also cannot guarantee the safety, handling, or authenticity of products purchased through unverified third-party sources.

All pet meds are subject to all applicable laws and regulations. Lost, stolen, damaged, or prematurely depleted controlled medications will not be replaced without veterinarian approval and may require a re-examination.

Medication Eligibility

All medications are subject to a valid Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR), the professional judgment of the prescribing veterinarian, and all applicable federal and state laws.

Lansdowne Animal Hospital reserves the right to decline any medication request that does not meet medical, legal, or safety requirements.
