September is Happy Cat Month! We want all of our furry patients to be both happy and healthy. Of course, kitties can be rather complicated on this accord. What Makes Cats Happy?

Fluffy may have a reputation for being a diva, but to be fair, she actually has pretty simple tastes. Good food, fresh water, clean litter, and proper veterinary care will cover the basics. To get that motor going, you’ll also need to provide toys, enrichment, and stimulation. For extra purrs, offer things like toys, boxes, catnip, and window seats. Last but not least, pay lots of attention to your furry friend, and make sure she feels loved and safe.

Most people associate happy cats with purring, and they aren’t exactly wrong. Fluffy does tend to start her engine when she’s feeling comfy and content. If your feline pal is content, she’s more likely to be playful, frisky, and perhaps a bit bratty at times. Happy cats also sometimes knead their owners, follow them around, or demand attention from them. You can also pick up some clues from your kitty’s body language. If Fluffy is content, she may rub her legs against you, blink at you slowly, or run towards you wiggling her tail straight up.
